Veuve Clicquot Launches First-ever Art Exhibition in NYC

In a bid to cement its cultural identity, iconic champagne brand Veuve Clicquot will launch its first-ever art exhibition. Opening in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood on June 17 and running until June 23, the Emotions of the Sun exhibit is centered around the connection between photography and the sun.

Hosted in collaboration with the iconic Magnum Photos – a New York-based photo agency hailed as being one of the first photography co-operatives entirely owned by its members – the exhibit brings together eight photographers: Steve McCurry, Alex Webb, Trent Parke, Olivia Arthur, Lindokuhle Sobekwa, Cristina de Middel, Nanna Heitmann and Newsha Tavakolian.

Spanning five continents, each member of the collective was given the same brief: to capture the emotions instilled in them by the sun.

Their response yielded a total of 40 images, each conveying the power and the influence of our solar system’s only star. Ranging from vast landscapes to tender references to childhood, the exhibit is a celebratory examination of the human relationship to space.

“Maison Veuve Clicquot is delighted to work with eight internationally renowned Magnum photographers, the lifeblood of that most renowned, photographic institution,” says Jean-Marc Gallot, president of Maison Veuve Clicquot. “The exhibition confirms Veuve Clicquot’s deep-rooted commitment to culture and transmits our message of optimism to the world at large.”

On June 18 and 20, photographers Cristina de Middel, Olivia Arthur and Alex Webb will be present at the Lafayette Street exhibit to embark in conversation about their contributions to the project.

Breaking down access issues to art, the Emotions of the Sun exhibit is completely free to enter. Reservations can be made for specific time slots but walks in are also welcome.
