This ‘House of the Dragon’-Inspired Adventure Will Take You to Visit Komodo Dragons in Indonesia

House of the Dragon is nearing the end of its second season, but fans of the HBO series can get their fantasy fill with a new getaway featuring mythical beasts.

Indonesia’s Ta’aktana resort has unveiled an off-site excursion that will make you feel like you’re stepping into the Games of Thrones prequel. The luxury waterfront property is in the country’s Lesser Sunda Islands, home to Komodo National Park. The UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the few places in the world where travelers can witness Komodo dragons in the wild. Though, these creatures aren’t the fictional flying kind à la Syrax or Seasmoke, so don’t expect to hone your riding skills.

Guests who book the one-day island-hopping adventure will board a private luxury charter that can accommodate up to eight people. The journey includes stops at several nearby attractions including the picturesque Pink Beach on Padar Island, renowned for its colorful coastline. The trip also includes snorkeling at Manta Point and Kanawa Island, both of which are teeming with marine life and coral reefs.

Of course, just like in the show, the majestic Komodo dragons are the true stars. The excursion includes a tour of the national park led by an expert ranger. Here, you’ll be able to encounter the endangered species in their natural habitat. Don’t worry, they only grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 pounds, so they’re far less intimidating than Vhagar. The day wraps up with a visit to Kalong Island to catch a killer sunset.

The experience, which can be booked through Ta’aktana, is priced at approximately $5,852 for a private charter. The rate covers the Komodo National Park entrance fee, lunch, snacks, snorkeling gear, and refreshments—not including beer or other alcoholic beverages.

The 70-key resort in Labuan Bajo, which opened its doors on May 31, is part of Marriott International’s Luxury Collection portfolio. The hotel itself features 45 suites, 25 villas, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fitness center, and a spa. Its largest (and most lavish) accommodation offering is a sprawling 5,000-square-foot villa dubbed the Mansion, complete with 24-hour butler service, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms. The property also has three on-site restaurants, a coffee roastery, a kids’ club, and even a chapel where guests can get hitched. Hey, it’s bound to be better than any Westeros wedding.
