This Expedition Cruise Along the British Isles Lets You Vacation Like a Royal

If you’re binging the latest season of Bridgerton or are straight-up obsessed with all things British monarchy, this new voyage will make you feel like you’re part of the royal family.

Luxury travel company Abercrombie and Kent has unveiled a new Cruising the British Isles itinerary that will take travelers to the most historic sites across Scotland, Ireland, and England. The 14-day expedition departs on September 10, 2024, aboard the Le Dumont d’Urville ship and includes private tours of iconic locales including Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace. In addition, you’ll also have lunch with a former executive chef of the royal family while in London.

The journey begins with a stay at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Before the cruise begins, travelers will spend the night in Edinburgh at the five-star hotel the Balmoral. Here, you’ll be treated to a welcome briefing and an on-site themed dinner. The next day, board the vessel and you’ll set sail along the Firth of Forth. While coasting through Northern Scotland, you’ll be able to check out the scenic Highlands and take part in a number of off-boat excursions whether you opt for a visit to Inverness, a stop at Urquhart Castle, or a whisky tasting at Glenmorangie Distillery

The sightseeing continues as you journey to the Western Isles and St. Kilda islands before reaching Ireland’s Country Donegal. Cruisers will disembark the ship (which is limited to 178 passengers and has all-balcony rooms) and once ashore, they can choose between a drive through the countryside to the Slieve League Mountains or a visit to Sligo, the hometown of poet William Butler Yeats. The following day, the ship arrives in Galway where the experiences include a culinary walking tour and an Irish whiskey tasting, plus a trip to a local sheep farm.

The next stop brings travelers to England. Once ashore in Plymouth, there will be lots of activities lined up. Think everything from a tour of the maritime city’s Mayflower Museum or a venture over to Dartmoor National Park. After, the vessel moves onto the White Cliffs of Dover; this leg offers guests a chance to visit Canterbury Cathedral, Leeds Castle (previously owned by six medieval queens of England), and Chartwell, also known as the former country home of Winston Churchill. The day concludes at the Four Seasons Hotel London where passengers will enjoy dinner.

Finally, the trip wraps up in the British capital. While in the Big Smoke, you’ll have the opportunity to explore famous landmarks like the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey, a World Heritage Site where King Charles’s coronation ceremony was held last year. Rates for the itinerary start at $21,495 per person.
