The Surrey Residences Penthouse: Saving the Best (and Most Expensive) for Last – Elite Traveler

Despite only opening its doors a few weeks ago, the fresh-faced and newly made-over The Surrey has already caused quite a stir on the Upper East Side. After the 100-year-old hotel shut its doors for four years (and after a $150m renovation), it reopened with a new name and operator, launching as Corinthia Hotel’s first US property.

More of a rebirth than a standard renovation, The Surrey’s reopening has brought with it a host of new amenities and exciting launches—including the expansion of restaurant Casa Tua into the Concrete Jungle. It has also revived the almost 100-year-old property’s original purpose as a residence hotel.

When it was first built in 1926, The Surrey was a home away from home for some of New York’s most famous faces, including the likes of JFK, Bette Davis, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Curtis, and Claudette Colbert. Now, global leaders in real estate development and private equity, and the developers of The Surrey, are restoring the hotel to its original glory, launching 14 private homes above the esteemed hotel.

Designed by master architects Schwartz & Gross, BKSK Architects restored the landmark building to its gleaming 1920s glory. Before taking the private elevator to the residences, which start from the 11th floor, residents enter through the graceful lobby designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio.

The nearly 5,200-sq-ft duplex penthouse features three bedrooms and access to three private terraces, each offering picturesque views across the Midtown skyline.
