As one of the true stalwarts of the luxury horology industry, the announcement of every new piece from Patek Philippe is an important moment. However, the revelation of an entirely new collection should be regarded as a special moment indeed. The new Cubitus collection is just that: Patek Philippe uncovering a new series of watches that will undoubtedly enter the classic timepiece canon.
In this new collection of three watches, Patek Philippe is blending the sought-after concepts of daring and elegance to imbue the notion of ‘elegant sporty’ into the Cubitus collection. It’s not an entirely revolutionary concept. The idea was perfectly captured all the way back in 1976 with the release of the Nautilus, a collection you may be surprised to hear was designed to be worn by sporty and active individuals, while still maintaining a certain level of elegance.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the new Cubitus collection is its square case design. While this style was remarkably popular during the Art Deco period, it’s a style that has mostly faded from view. In the Cubitus collection, Patek Philippe made the decision to design a case with square bezels, but with rounded corners, iving the piece a rugged yet elegant look; exceptionally modern, but still classic.

Throughout the collection, you will find the dials have been emblazoned with horizontal relief embossing, A style that leans into the sporty inspiration and allows light to play dynamically off the watch face.
In the Cubitus collection, Patek Philippe has released three iterations: The flagship Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases Reference 5822P-001; the vintage-esque two-tone Cubitus Reference 5821/1AR-001; and the sporty steel Cubitus Reference 5821/1A-001.
Clearly the flagship model of the Cubitus collection, to mark the new series of watches Patek Philippe has unveiled this entirely new model in platinum that features a large-format date, the moon phase and the day of the week, which all change instantaneously.
In order to achieve this, Patek Philippe has developed an entirely new movement, the affectionately named caliber 240 PS CI J LU. For the movement alone, Patek Philippe filed six patent applications. Innovations have been made to ensure the large-date digits are always perfectly aligned, in addition to ensuring the timepiece can be corrected at any time of the day.
On the watch face, you’ll find the grand date displayed at 12 o’clock, the moon phase at 7 o’clock and the subsidiary seconds counter at half past four. The blue sunburst dial is elegant, in part thanks to the horizontal relief embossing, while the watch hands are composed of white gold and a white luminescent coating to ensure legibility.
This piece also features a transparent sapphire-crystal case back, providing the owner with a view of this impressive new movement. The strap is finished in navy blue with cream contrast stitching and is made from an ultra-resistant composite material. The owner of this piece will also receive matching cufflinks, designed with a square white gold frame and blue sunburst motif.
Bringing a vintage feel to the new Patek Philippe Cubitus collection is Reference 5821/1AR-001. This is a two-tone piece that Patek Philippe has constructed from steel and rose gold, with the bezel and central bracket links in rose gold, while the caseband and lateral links are in steel.
This is an entirely new case that’s 45mm in diameter and utilizes the new square with rounded corners design. Its profile is also exceptionally slim at only 8.3mm. The dial is finished in a blue sunburst with horizontal relief embossing, contrasting nicely with the all-rose gold hour markers, in addition to the minutes and hour hands.
The movement is Patek Philippe’s caliber 26-330 S C, a derivative of a movement that was introduced in 2019 and features a stop-seconds mechanism. This can all be viewed through the watch’s transparent sapphire-crystal case back. Much like the previous watch, owners of the 5821/1AR-001 will receive cufflinks designed to match the watch, featuring a rose gold frame and a blue sunburst center.

By far the sportiest of the new Patek Phillipe Cubitus collection is the exceptionally classic-looking Reference 5821/1A-001. This piece comes in steel and features the all-new square with rounded corners design in addition to an elegant integrated bracelet, which delivers both flexibility and strength.
Much like the previous piece, this variant comes in a 45-mm case that is only 8.3mm thick. Differing from the other watches in the collection, the dial on this model is finished in a subtle olive green with a sunburst motif, however, it still features the horizontal relief embossing that can be seen throughout the entire collection. The hour markers, minute and hour hands are all finished in white gold with a white luminescent coating.
The movement is the same caliber 26-330 S C that powers Reference 5821/1AR-001. As with the two other models in the Patek Philippe Cubitus collection, owners will also receive matching cufflinks, this time in white gold with an olive green center.
