The upcoming sports car biopic Maserati: The Brothers just got a new cast member.
Producer Andrea Iervolino, whose team is also behind the films on Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini, has added Fantastic Four actress Jessica Alba to the project’s ensemble, Deadline reported on Thursday. The 43-year-old Golden Globe nominee will join previously announced stars including Michele Morrone, Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs), and Andy Garcia (The Godfather). The movie, directed by Oscar-winner Bobby Moresco, is slated to start shooting next month and will tell the story of the family behind the Italian marque.
“Jessica Alba is an artist of remarkable versatility and screen presence,” Iervolino told Robb Report’s sister site. “Her ability to bring authenticity to every role she plays adds a unique quality to Maserati: The Brothers. We are confident that her contribution will enrich this story of passion, challenges, and Italian innovation.”
According to Deadline, Alba will take on the “pivotal” role of Sandra, while Morrone has been cast to play Alfieri Il Maserati, one of the six siblings. Garcia will embody Mr. Rossini, a character that Iervolino previously described as “a central figure in the story.” Meanwhile, Hopkins will portray an “Italian financier who bankrolls the family.”
In terms of the plot, the flick will follow the three brothers—Alfieri, Ernesto, and Ettore—who are credited with founding the company in 1914 in Bologna. Most notably, Alfieri tragically died at the age of 44 following an accident during the 1927 Messina Cup when he drove Maserati’s first Grand Prix racing car. In 1937, the automaker was purchased by the Orsi family and later acquired by the Fiat Group in 1993.
The Andrea Iervolino Company recently announced another high-speed biopic is on the way. This time, the focus will be on Italian-French automotive icon Ettore Bugatti, the legendary founder of the Bugatti company. The still-untitled movie will begin filming next year around France and Italy; however, no cast or release date has been announced.
“After the success of our films on Lamborghini and Ferrari, I am thrilled to bring another global automotive icon to the screen,” he told Iervolino of the news. “Bugatti will be a film that honors the passion and innovation that have defined one of the most iconic car manufacturers of all time.”
