Jeremy Allen White Says ‘The Bear’ Season 4 Will Start Filming ‘Early Next Year’

Season three of The Bear ended on a cliffhanger, but it looks like fans won’t have to wait too long to find out what happens.

The FX series is reportedly scheduled to start filming in 2025, according to star Jeremy Allen White, who plays leading man Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto. The actor recently opened up about the show’s return and offered details on when shooting is expected to begin. “I’m not sure exactly when,” he said during an interview with Esquire UK. “I know it’s not going to be until next year. I imagine sometime early next year, a similar start date to the last couple of years: February/March time.”

While the previous installment was still in production, Variety reported that the fine-dining drama had been “quietly renewed” and season four would be filmed back-to-back with the third season in Chicago. During a press conference earlier this year, White and his co-star Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney, confirmed the news, however, it’s now sounding like maybe Chris Storer and his crew didn’t shoot the whole thing. “We did something like that,” White said.

“Yeah, a little version of it, sort of. But not exactly,” Edebiri added. As to why, sources told Deadline that the back-to-back filming could be a way to accommodate the ensemble’s busy schedules.

Season three, which consisted of 10 episodes, dropped on Hulu on June 24, 2024. Since it debuted, the most recent installment has been met with mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, with some even questioning the show’s future (spoilers ahead).

The season finale concluded, like we said, on a cliffhanger. More specifically, on a frustrating “to be continued” after the Bear’s Chicago Tribune review finally comes in. We don’t actually get to see the article, only snippets ranging from “confusing,” “sloppy,” and “inconsistent” to “brilliant,” “innovative,” and “delicious.” Of course, now we’ll have to wait to find out if the review was actually good or bad. However, Carmy’s reaction implies that it could be negative, which means he’s got bigger problems like dealing with Uncle Jimmy.

If what White says is true regarding the filming schedule, then we could be looking at another summer premiere for season four. With any luck, The Bear (both the TV show and the restaurant) will come back stronger.
