Fall Asleep Amid the Flowers at The Pulitzer Amsterdam – Elite Traveler

Forget the Vermeers or the Rembrandts, the canals or the culture, anyone heading to Amsterdam at this time of year is going with one thing in mind: the tulips.

As flocks of tourists flood the Dutch capital’s crowded canal-side streets, The Pulitzer Amsterdam has brought the favored flower into full bloom with the design of its new suite. Just in time for spring, the boutique hotel has debuted its Flower Collector’s Suite, a glorious and contemporary reimagining of a tulip trader’s townhouse.

The design was overseen by Jacu Strauss, creative director of The Pulitzer and The Lore Group, who took inspiration from the city’s rich botanical culture; from the sprawling green spaces to its decadent and ornate greenhouses.

The suite exudes the charm of a private apartment in the heart of Amsterdam, with a separate sitting area that makes the most of the views across the Keizersgracht canal.

The Flower Collector’s Suite is one of the available Collector’s Suite series, where each room is inspired by the flamboyant Dutch aristocrats who once called the canal-side site home. (The Pulitzer Amsterdam sprawls across 25 canal-side houses dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.)

Each suite is distinctly unique, furnished with a curated mix of bespoke furniture, vintage pieces and beautiful, often specially commissioned, artwork to create a space unlike anywhere in the city.

Certainly, that is the case for the Flower Collector’s Suite. Across the 430-sq-ft floorplan, Strauss injects details pulled from the city’s botanical references: chairs chosen for their soft and petal-like rounded shape, the metalwork around the minibar evoking the greenhouses of the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.

The suite’s color scheme is a fuchsia-filled reference to the pink hues of the Princess Angelique tulip, which Strauss interjects with fresh pops of greens. The bedroom feels like a forgotten grand hall in one of Amsterdam’s many galleries, with an eclectic collection of antique artwork hanging over the super king-sized bed.
