BVI’s Peter Island Resort Reopens After Seven Year Renovation

Peter Island Resort, the largest private island resort in the British Virgin Islands, is set to reopen its doors on December 1, 2024, following a much-anticipated seven-year transformation. After suffering damage at the hands of Hurricane Irma in 2017, the 1,800-acre property has undergone an extensive refresh, bringing renewed modern amenities to the charming Caribbean getaway.

Making the most of the island’s tropical beauty, Peter Island Resort’s 52 rooms and suites have been thoughtfully relocated along the powdery sands of Deadman’s Beach, one of the island’s five pristine beaches, so guests can lay their heads just steps from the turquoise sea. If you’re after an even more exclusive stay, two redesigned villas offer an elevated retreat for those who seek more privacy and space.

Given the British Virgin Islands’ reputation as the sailing capital of the world — thanks to its calm waters, reliable trade winds and dozens of nearby islands and cays — it’s no surprise Peter Island has doubled down on its maritime offerings. The all-new Peter Island Yacht Club is set to be a major hub of the refreshed resort, with expanded facilities that can now welcome superyachts up to 200 feet.

Sailors arriving ashore will find plenty to keep them entertained, including the yacht club’s brand-new swimming pool, pickleball, bocce and basketball courts. If you find yourself hungry, the Drunken Pelican Bar is the island’s new go-to spot for casual eats, craft cocktails and a lively atmosphere. For stylish wares and boating essentials, the yacht club is also home to a boutique and commissary.

If you’re looking for a more formal dining experience, the resort’s beachfront Drake Steakhouse promises to deliver mouthwatering surf-and-turf dishes alongside a stellar wine list. With the Caribbean sunset as your backdrop, it’s the perfect spot to wind down and create special memories with loved ones.

The beachfront hotel also boasts a new center for relaxation, The Spa, a serene seaside retreat nestled along Big Reef Bay. The refreshed modern space features seven treatment rooms, a yoga and meditation sanctuary, a fitness center, and an outdoor pool, and expert treatments feature luxury brands like Skin111 and Farmhouse Fresh, along with locally sourced ingredients to give that summer island glow. The Spa’s oceanfront jacuzzi is a standout romantic bonus.
