Throughout the last 300 years, the world has changed a great deal. Revolutions completely transformed the political landscape, birthing democracies across the globe. Empires both formed and crumbled. Yet throughout these three centuries of cataclysmic change and advancement, there remain some constants. It was 300 years ago this year, that the Irish military officer and businessman, Richard Hennessy was born and in his later life, Mr Hennessy would form one of the most recognizable spirits brands in the world. It’s this 300th anniversary that is being honored with the launch of the Richard Hennessy Magnum.
This latest release from Hennessy marks an impressive milestone for the internationally heralded Cognac producer. As such, a magnum of liquid seems a fitting tribute. Named after the company’s founder, the Richard Hennessy Magnum is positioned as an expression of his legacy and a passageway between Hennessy’s past, present and future.
Priced at $22,000 and with only 110 pieces available, this impressive decanter contains Hennessy’s most precious eaux-de-vie, a suitable nod to 300 years of Cognac making.

Both crafted and bottled at Hennessy’s Atelier des Éditions Rares in Cognac, the liquid is contained in an audacious decanter designed by previous Hennessy collaborator, Daniel Libeskind. Formed from Baccarat crystal, of course, the decanter is described by the brand as representing ‘a new level of contemporaneity and architectural creativity.’
The crystal decanter is suspended by a striking metal frame and also features an engraved portrait of Richard Hennessy — designed by French calligrapher, Nicolas Ouchenir — which is reflected through the decanter.
Alongside the imposing — in both size and looks — decanter, those who purchase this limited edition magnum, will also receive two Richard Hennessy glasses in cut crystal, a pipette and a holder, all of which is designed to greatly enhance the tasting experience.

Hennessy describes the Cognac’s tasting notes as: ‘Flowery notes, soft spices, nutmeg, notes of leather and hints of fennel.’
Only 110 Richard Hennessy Magnums will be available and priced at $22,000, they will be available for purchase via private sales and at Houses of Hennessy Worldwide.
